Rakhibhandhan in India is another version of Bhaitika in Nepal. I miss my sister who is thousands of miles away from me (in Nepal).I feel like my sister is singing this song by herself. Thsi song raises my goose pimples whenever i listent to it. It brings forth the sentiments of the pure love which exists between a loving brother and a sister. I get wild at people celebrating the valentine day, fathers day, valentine day, dog and cats day. But why there is no much mention of this great Indian tradition? This Rakhee Day should be made a universal brother - sister day, with this lovely composition of SJ as the flag anthem
A very good question raised by you why the tradition of pure selfless love between a brother and a sister dont get momentum. My opinion is that since the world began accepting Sigmond fried's worthless thoughts that translates every relation ship with sex and evntually it tranformed to a commodity. I mean love no longer remained a subject it became an object. And we know that every object sells it started selling itself thus they rediscovered Valentine

After Chooti Bahen movie, Raksha Bandhan took a higher level of celebration in our house, with four brothers and four sisters. When brothers and sisters are now scattered all over, one line of the song gives special meaning to us -"yaad ka deepak jalana, jalana..." Brings tears in my eyes.
