Raksha Bandhan date is 13th August 2011. Saturday is the day of this festival this year, followed by Sunday and August 15th is the Independence day India. Indians have three consecutive days of celebrations this year.
Significance of Raksha Bandhan
Rakhsha Bandhan is celebrated on the full moon day or Purnima of Shravan month of Hindu calendar, also called Shravan Purinima. Raksha means protection and Bandhan means bond. So on this day is celebrated as bond of protection, between the sisters and brothers.
Sister ties a sacred thread called Rakhi to brothers wrist and prays for her brother’s protection. The brother prays for her sister’s protection.
